To Be or Not to Be . . . There is no choice

You either are or you aren’t and empathic person. Yes, all people alive have the basic ability to feel empathy. Many can, over time and with constant training, learn to become more intuitive and more capable of reading then feeling the  emotions that people around them are experiencing at that moment.

Then there are people who can actually feel at any given moment what others around them are feeling. This is random and not always accurate. But it still happens. It can be very uncomfortable. Especially to younger people who don’t understand what is happening. Many choose to learn to ignore it. They grow up always having it, but never letting it become a part of them. They instead suffer from the side effects of not managing this gift properly. Side effects include emotional and physical sickness which is a part of their lives. They never really know why, but they get sick a lot. They never know why, but they are emotionally hurting a lot.

This section of LDS Empath is dedicated to helping you to figure out what is going on. Are you an Empath? Or are you a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)? There are many in the world today who are confusing the two. Thinking they are an Empath when they are really an HSP. I have both kinds of people in my life. Both are very much needed in this world to help bring more light into this world.  Where there is light, darkness is not.

As I find out more about becoming a higher functioning Empath, I will continue to post.

I hope this information will help you as you apply it to your life. May God bless you in your efforts to become a more capable, stable and higher functioning Empath.

Till the next post,

Light and Love

I just discovered you this morning and am feeling very grateful! I am an active Latter-day Saint with an abiding testimony who has wondered for many years where she fits within the current structure. Soon after Dr. Elaine Aron’s book was published I took the “Are You Highly Sensitive?” test and scored 100%. Since then I have been learning about, talking about, and coaching LDS HSPs. Recently, though, I have felt that this isn’t quite reaching the spot within me that needs understanding and empowerment. A couple friends asked if I am an Empath, and, quite honestly, I didn’t know what to say. This morning as I was praying, seeking answers, I was blessed to find “LDS Empath”, words which spoke clearly to me! I read with great interest what you have written regarding the differences between an HSP and an Empath. I am an LDS Empath. Thank you for being you. Thank you for being here for me this morning. Blessings–

Hi Susan. Dr. Elaine Aron’s research was the cutting edge research for quite some time. She has unfortunately grouped all Highly Sensitive People with Empaths. Not quite the same. So some of what she teaches applies to HSPs and some to Empaths and some to both. I work to create a distinction between them. Empaths are highly sensitive and have many other traits that HSPs do not have. Here is a link to my list of Empath Traits: http://ldsempath.com/empath-traits/
And glad to have you here. Lots of love and light to you:)

Thank you for your thoughtful message. I’m so happy to know you respond to comments, as I like two-way communications. I am definitely an Empath and am eager to learn more about how to manifest my true self in inspired ways.
